Expressive Arts Therapies - Expressive Arts therapies is to help teens discover other ways to express themselves that will reaffirm their emotional experiences, and thought processes. Through art, music, dance, and drama therapy, teens can try different creative ways to communicate stressful and difficult thoughts and feelings that they might not be able to vocalize. We have found these therapies very useful. Echo Malibu uses licensed master’s level art therapists, drama therapists, music therapists, poetry therapists and dance/movement therapists in its programs.

Art Therapy - At Echo Malibu, the art therapy is a clinical specialty and is conducted by our licensed art therapist. Although like many of the creative arts therapies, these are actual therapies. There are not br treated as mere arts and crafts projects because they are not that. Intra-psychic materials are bought out through the use of art. The therapist examines and then works through the issues that arise using the therapeutic art process.

Drama Therapy - The Drama Therapist at Echo Malibu works in a group process to recreate scenes from different individual, family and social experiences as they come through in treatment. These drama therapies are guided by the teens and most of the time made up by them as well. Treatment that arises from these therapies are remarkable opportunities for corrective emotional experiences of past events.

Music Therapy - Another alternative form of communication and expression would be music therapy. This teen recovery program assists teens in getting into the core of the teen's being. The emotional and behavioral elements are largely overlooked as a result of their alcohol or drug use. Teens who have trouble expressing themselves usually thrive in this alternative expressive modality.
