ECHO
Alumni Chair featured in GOOD HOUSEKEEPING
Alumni
Chair, Mary B. was featured in an article titled “The Hidden
Epidemic of Very Young Alcoholics” in the May addition of
GOOD HOUSEKEEPING magazine. According to Mary, she welcomed the
opportunity to tell her story. Regarding the publication she stated,
“I never let an opportunity to share my experience, strength
and hope pass without taking advantage of it. You never know who
will be reading any one article. You never know who’s life
you may save. ECHO and the recovery community have given me so much.
It’s always exciting to get an opportunity to give back.”
In
addition to focusing on Mary’s struggle with chemical dependency
issues, the article offers practical information for the parent’s
of adolescents such as risk factors and signs that your child may
be drinking. To view the article in it’s entirety please follow

LA Dodgers
Host ECHO Clients, Alumni and Staff

ECHO Alumni Tommy
M. and Actor/Director Penny Marshall at Dodger Stadium.
LOS ANGELES
(EP) - August 1st Marked the Day! The clients, alumni and staff
of ECHO MALIBU were invited onto the field of Dodger’s stadium
in the hopes of seeing Barry Bonds hit a record breaking home run!
All were sure he would deliver.
ECHO toured
the field with Dodger Legend Sweet Lou Johnson (Game 7 Homerun 1965!),
met the players, hob-nobbed with hollywood’s A-list, and,
as a bonus, got front row seats to the Dodgers-Giants game.
The Dodgers
made this amazing experience available to thank ECHO for on-going
support of RBI (REVIVING BASEBALL IN THE INNER CITIES.) RBI provides
positive, high quality baseball experiences to more than 185,000
youth in 185 cities worldwide. The ultimate intent is to use baseball
as a tool to reduce high school drop out rates and drug use.
While the home
run never came, the event could be described as nothing less than
Hall of Fame worthy!
ECHO
Teens dealing with grief, to participate in BE The MIRACLE Video
Project
As
part of ECHO’s on-going grief work, more than a dozen clients
and alumni who have lost a parent or guardian, will join extraordinary
teens from around the world in a special project.
The
Be the Miracle event will provide youth with an opportunity to create
meaningful media projects that inspire others and honor their parent
or guardian who has died. Each youth will create a 2-3 minute video
which will include the following:
- One
thing they want the world to know about the parent or guardian
who has died
- What
inspired them
- Something
inspirational about the parent or guardian
- Where
the teen participant finds inspiration and finally
- They
will challenge their audience by asking “How can you be
a Miracle in your life today?”
All
Be the Miracle projects will be shared with the world on line.
ECHO
Alumni published in VISION magazine
Sixteen
year old writer and ECHO Alumni, Rob B. had an article about his
treatment experience printed in the August 2007 edition of VISION
magazine. The title of the article is “Echo Malibu Turns Lives
Around.” In the article, Rob writes from the first person
saying “I entered ECHO MALIBU as many drug addicts enter a
treatment center. I was angry and confused and I felt that I was
above everyone else. After a week at ECHO, I had completed my first
AA step. Within a month I had accepted a higher power and enjoyed
going to meetings.” He goes on to state “Each day at
ECHO I felt more in contact with my true self.”
As
a result of his hard work and new found sobriety Rob was recently
accepted into a writing program at a prestigious Art Institute where
great things no doubt await.
In
addition to Rob’s article, art work from ECHO alumni Emily
H. titled “Inner Self” was featured. To view the article
